FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 7am (Gran Fondo) and 8:30am (Medio & Piccolo).

  • There are three route options available for individual riders, teams, or tandem bikes: 102 Mile Gran Fondo, 70 Mile Medio, and 42 Mile Piccolo

  • Yes, we love e-bikes, but with a few rules:

    1. You must be self-sufficient, meaning MGF will not provide SAG support for these bikes. If you plan to ride an e-bike, please make sure your route choice is appropriate for your battery life. If you choose to do the Gran Fondo, please note that 70+ miles of this route is closed to vehicles and our support staff will not be equipped to help you.

    2. Be courteous with your speed and riding style.

    3. E-Bike riders do not qualify for any awards for fastest time on the routes.

    4. Be sure to register for the correct e-bike category/route when you sign-up.

  • We strongly encourage riders to pick the route that best fits their current fitness and training levels, but just in case, we are offering a shuttle service that will depart from the Whitmore Rest Stop at 3:00pm, 4:00pm, and 5:00pm.

  • Riding to the start is highly encouraged, as parking is limited. There is a paid parking lot available on Minaret Road across from The Village, with overflow parking located to the east side of The Village.

  • This event could not happen without the help of volunteers!

    There are tons of opportunities to volunteer before, during, and after the event and you can earn a free entry!

  • Yes. There will be a special line at packet pick-up for route change requests.

    Refunds for going from Gran Fondo to Medio/Piccolo distance will not be issued. A $20 upcharge from Medio and Piccolo to Gran Fondo will occur.

  • The closure starts on Highway 120 just after the turn off to the tufa towers and continues until Browns Campground on Benton Crossing Road. The closure is in effect from 8am until 1pm. There could be some light vehicle traffic on the road with law enforcement, SAG vehicles, and other vehicles not subject to the "thru" road closure.

  • Riders who start early will not be timed and will not appear in the results. Early riders also run the risk of rest stops not being open, meaning they could potentially be unsupported for the duration of their ride depending on their speed. We DO NOT recommend starting early.

  • Yes, tons of great selections including a light lunch at the Black Lake and Watterson stops! Every rest stop has something special.

  • We make a concerted effort to accommodate our gluten free riders! Each rest stop will have a GF items. We will also have a Gluten Free items available at the post ride party - please be sure to request when getting your meal.

  • Generally the cell phone service is pretty bad along our routes. We like to use old school communication! If you need assistance, please tell another rider to send the message up course or flag down a support vehicle. We ask our riders to be team players and always willing to help out others.

  • They really are free! No matter which ride route you are doing, we'll have photographers at several locations on the course taking your picture. You will be able to download digital versions of your pictures at Captivating Sports Photos' website within a few days of the finish.

  • We change up the finisher gift every year - they are always awesome. They will be distributed as riders cross the finish line.

  • Mammoth Lakes and Mono County is often beautiful, but can be challenging too. You will be in the big mountains at high elevation so you should come prepared for anything from cold mornings in the 40's to warm afternoons in the high 70's. Rain is possible and wind is almost always a factor to some degree as it is with almost any bike ride anywhere at anytime. Have the conditions been challenging some years - yep! Have they been spectacularly beautiful other years - definitely!
